Lobbying for Local Residents Group

Chiltern Chamber helps local residents group

Chiltern Chamber was contacted back in February 2014 to help lobby for improvements to Victoria Road, Chesham.

The road consists of 11 blocks of low-rise flats managed by Paradigm Housing Association. Residents were experiencing deterioration in the grassed areas due to car-parking. The road is still unrestricted for streetside parking, but with its close proximity to the town centre and tube, it is popular with shoppers and commuters. This has meant that residents have had to park on the grassed areas, which then became very muddy in the winter months.

The Association believed that grasscrete reinforcement would solve this problem.

Victoria Road Residents Association treasurer, and Chamber member, Robert Havasi contacted Chamber secretary Vee Bharakda for advice.

Ms Bharakda, who is also a director within Wilkins Kennedy Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, informed Mr Havasi that Paradigm did have a representative attend Chamber meetings, Kirsty Pepper, who is head of operations for the Chilterns. However, Ms Bharakda decided that in order to get things moving, nothing less than a call to the Chief Executive would do.

A call was made there and then by Ms Bharakda to Alison Hadden, Chief Executive of Paradigm. Ms Bharakda put forward a very compelling case regarding the need for parking improvements to which Ms Hadden gave an assurance that this work would be undertaken within the next few months.

Very positive and welcome support for the association, and though progress has been slow, the Chamber continues to push.
