The local MND Association is a proud member of the Chiltern Chamber and we are delighted to be able to support and share information on their behalf as to what the organisation offers.
Motor Neurone Disease is life-shortening and there is no cure. What happens is that messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles, which causes the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste; affecting how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
The Chiltern Branch of MND covers an area from north of Aylesbury to Slough, has been active in supporting people living with Motor Neurone Disease since 1992 and is entirely run by volunteers.
At any one time, around 40 people are living with MND in our area – but this only tells part of the story. When one person in a household is diagnosed with MND, EVERYONE in the household is living with the disease. It affects all their lives.
We run regular support meetings for people living with MND, their carers and family members and have a team of trained volunteers providing one-to-one support for families living with MND.
To achieve all of this, we organise local fundraising activities. Our annual fundraising target is £30,000, which, in the current economic climate, is challenging. We are constantly looking for new ways to raise funds to continue supporting local people living with MND.
