The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is the UK’s leading not-for-profit developer of housing for over 55s. Since 1988, we’ve operated retirement villages and smaller housing developments around our Midlands base and further south. Today, we support older people in 14 retirement villages and 5 housing schemes.
Our Vision is better lives for older people.
Our Mission is creating sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if it’s needed.
Facilities: Each Housing Scheme or Village has 5 to 18 social, health and leisure facilities that are accessible to our residents and up to 5,000 older people across our wider communities.
Staff: Our Housing Schemes and Villages are supported by a team of 1,500 staff, recruited to work with us directly. Over 85% of our care staff are qualified to QCF (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care. The Charity has Investors in People Gold Award status.
Volunteers: We have around 2,300 active volunteers representing all age groups who support administration, hospitality, well-being and health, entertainment, skills learning, activities, resident friendship and our charity shops.
Funding: We derive funding from a variety of sources including payments for our housing, care and support services, funding from statutory agencies, charity appeals, legacies and income from our charity shops. Surplus funds are used to support residents’ housing, health and well-being and to develop new villages in response to significant national demand.
